SNES Final Fantasy 2/4 Ana Piano mix

OST: Sadness
Mp3: Sadness (Ana’s death)
Sheet: None

Inspriation

While I realize this song is in many important parts throughout the game. When the twins die, when edge fights his parents and many others the one that stood out to me growing up was when ana dies. The simplicity of this song is what made me really enjoy the sadness in it.

NES Metroid Overture #1

metroid_random

Mp3: Metroid Overture #1
Sheet: No sheet music yet

Inspiration

After seeing how much my first kraid arrangement was appreciated I decided to work on some more Metroid tracks. I don’t really like how this one turned out but I have had many emails requesting it so I’m putting it up here. It starts with the intro, then moves to ridley’s and then once again to kraid.

SNES Chrono Trigger Sad songs

robo_beatup

OST: Bottom of night & Day the world revived
Remix: Sad song
Sheet: None yet

Inspiration

I had an old pentium that I built inside of a terra work boots box. It was for the most part host for all my original servers (including vgpiano.com) and non-stop it played inside of a chrono trigger rom (that was just an OST sampler) “The Day the world revived”. Eventually I got pretty fond of it and started to play it on piano. Somehow “At the bottom of Night” worked it’s way in as the intro.

NES Metroid In Kraid

Kraid's Hideout

Mp3: In Kraid
Sheet: Zipped jpgs

Inspiration

While camping in northern ontario I brought my laptop along with me mainly to create journals of my time up north. On some of the rainy days I loaded up metroid an played through a little. When I got to Kraid’s stage I just sat and listened to the music because I didn’t expect a song of this quality to be there. When you take the song apart the harmony and melody they are almost two different songs yet together it produces a classical sounding eerie peiece that once you learn is really fun to play.

SNES Final Fantasy 5 Remember

OST: Reminiscence
Remix: Remember
Sheet: None

Inspiration

I never actually completed final fantasy 5. However, one night after playing through a few hours of it I decided that I’d allow myself to skip ahead and browse the SPCs. I found a lot of music that I didn’t expect to find in a final fantasy game and it made me pretty happy. I learned this song right away and recorded it because I felt it was a good model for how this game has different music.

SNES Final Fantasy 5 Nostalgia

OST: SPC
Remix: Nostalgia
Sheet: None yet

Inspiration

All those things you could have once had. Reaching to touch them as your fingers fold against the glass cover. It’s just a 2d image of what was once in your permanant grasp. It’s gone now, and you are changed. Where is the past, where are you.

NES Ninja Gaiden Glass Ninja Tears

ninja_gaiden_sad

Mp3: Glass Ninja Tears
Sheet: None yet

Inspiration

For a few years I played around with this song. I tracked it a few times (in FT2) and one day when I was sitting around on the piano I decided to record it. Back then I was arranging stuff on a very regular basis so I could upload it to VGMix1. I was always pretty happy with this song and it was well received by those who remembered the original song.

Dos PC Skyroads Sad Song

Level Sample

OST: None yet
Remix: Sad Song
Sheet: None yet

Inspiration

Back when BBS downloads and shareware CD’s were the primary way I would receive games I came across this game “Skyroads“. Initially I didn’t care that much for the music because honestly the game was pretty hard. However, sometimes after playing it for a few hours I would find myself going through the music in my head.

I didn’t think much about it, or try to remix it (I didn’t do remixes back then) but it stuck in my head. Then years later when I was sitting down aimlessly at the piano I started to play this song but couldn’t remember where it was from. When I finally did figure it out I went back and played skyroads after which I did this arrangement.

The arrangement itself does not follow the skyroads melody note for note as I tired to make it more emotional but I think it’s easily recognizable.

Dos PC Tyrian Composition in Q

Deli Shop

OST: LDS
Remix: Composition in Q
Sheet: PDF

Inspiration

I had always sifted through the jukebox in the tyrian setup and this song seemed hidden (since in the shareware version I don’t really think it was played). My friend created a tracked version of the song for fun and when I heard it I decided to learn it. Once I learned it I realized that it was actually pretty good so I recorded it and upload it to VgMix1 since tyrian remixes were pretty rare.

SNES Final Fantasy 3/6 Kids run through city

OST: Kids Run
Remix: Mp3
Sheet: Piano collections version

Inspiration

When I first became interested in recording remixes a friend of mine showed me a remix collection of Final Fantasy music that had been published on CD. I didn’t think much of it and I decided that I would start making my own “higher” quality arrangements. I learned this version of “kids run through city” from the Final Fantasy Piano Collections. It took me a while to get this song the way I wanted and since it was my first recording there were several technical and practiacl mistakes. I think by the end it took me around 100 takes in the living room of a house with no air conditioning on a very hot july evening. That is something I will not endure again :)
